Abstract

This chapter discusses the current management of heart transplantation, including the indications and contraindications to heart transplantation. The process of organ collection and transport is discussed, including novel methods of heart preservation. The conduct of a case of heart transplantation is reviewed, with the rationale for using drugs and monitoring therapies. The common pitfalls of transplantation are discussed, as are the indications for mechanical circulatory support.
