Abstract

Digital transformation presents itself as a new paradigm in supply chain processes. The development of technologies with a high capacity for data capture, storage, processing and application coupled with cost reduction is allowing this transformation. Digital technologies were organized into three classes, enabling, integrating and applying. Based on multiple case study research incorporated in two large companies, empirical evidence of the occurrence of digital transformation. As an additional contribution to this research, a case study protocol was developed, with guidelines for selecting cases, collecting and analyzing data. It became evident that the digital transformation is taking place, however, at different levels, depending on the case and the process analyzed. The cases converge in the use of some technologies and the main competitive requirements aimed at the implementation of technology that is the cost. The difference is most evident in the digital transformation strategy and in the processes in which digital technologies are applied.
