Abstract
This chapter provides the reader with an introduction to the landmark-based insertion of peripheral intravenous catheters, including commonly available devices, standard insertion techniques, and pitfalls to successful placement and use. Principles of phlebotomy are also discussed, including techniques to reduce erroneous laboratory results and considerations relating to order of lab draw.
