Abstract

Combination vaccines date back to 1948 when diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccines were combined into DTP shot. Today the most common pediatric combination vaccine is the hexavalent vaccine, which includes DTP plus Hib, IPV polio and Hepatitis B components. Several preparations are now available. Hexavalent vaccine facilitates childhood immunization schedules and increase vaccine compliance.
