The world economy is currently on the verge of a new transformation. Ongoing digitalization is changing the global economy by reducing the costs of data collection, storage, and processing; reducing production chains, and so on. The increasing processes of digitalization lead to the blurring of geographical and physical boundaries. These circumstances open up new opportunities for states and businesses, and contribute to the development of competitiveness within countries and in the world as a whole. Results of the study: 1. The analysis of the digital economy of the Russian Federation is carried out. 2. The role of the state in the development of the digital economy is shown. 3. The weaknesses and strengths of the digital economy are identified. 4. The directions of solving the problems of digitalization of the Russian economy are determined.
