Abstract
The paper focuses on the development of ideas about food security and the content of the term food security at the theoretical and normative-legal levels. Food security is essential for the life of each person and social development. Therefore, the conceptualization of the understanding of the content of this term contributes to the effective solution of theoretical and practical problems in food security in Russia. Food security is considered one of the types of national and economic security, the fundamental theoretical provisions of which have general methodological significance for understanding the essence and meaning of food security. The term “food security” is a broader concept in the general context of security, which assumes the complex nature of the considered social relations. Our analysis gives reasons to distinguish food security from related concepts and consider it a management category with an independent meaning.
