Abstract
This introductory chapter overviews some of the important findings that emerge in this volume. Most of the chapters were presented and discussed at the Third Biennial Conference on Identity Theory and Research held in 2018 at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. The chapters covers a wide array of issues. The volume is organized into three parts on the theme of identities in action. They include ethnicity and race; family, religion, and work; and networks, homophily, and the physical environment.
