Abstract
This chapter is a reflection on the development of my thinking about the best way to teach political science research methods. I discuss how past experiences led to the development of my current state of thinking about the course. My three primary insights are (1) introductory research methods should be situated within the broader curriculum; it should not be considered as the beginning and end of learning about methods. (2) The core goal should be to reduce innumeracy. Students should be able to effectively read contemporary research in peer-reviewed journals. (3) Fun is not the antithesis of rigorous. Learning about research can and should be fun.
