Abstract
The rapid ultrasound in shock (RUSH) is designed to rapidly diagnose the cause of undifferentiated hypotension. It was developed in the emergency department to systematically evaluate a patient with ultrasound to identify life-threatening pathologies. The RUSH includes heart, inferior vena cava (IVC), and aortic assessments for diagnosing the etiology of acute hypotension in the emergency department. The RUSH can detect pathologies causing hypotension that may not be evident on physical examination including acute MI, ruptured aortic aneurism, and tension pneumothorax.
