A Preliminary Checklist, Phenology, and Biological Spectrum of the Vascular Flora of Manglot Wildlife Park, Nizampur, Pakistan

Abstract

This study was conducted on seasonal basis during 2014–2015 to assess the multidimensional aspects of plant resources of Manglot Wildlife Park, Nizampur KPK, Pakistan. The flora included 215 plant species from 61 families, 55 being Dicotyledons, 4 Monocotyledons, one Gymnosperm and one Pteridophyte. Poaceae (27 spp.), followed by Asteraceae (21 spp.), Caryophyllaceae (11 spp.), Brassicaceae (10 spp.), Papilionaceae (9 spp.), Malvaceae (7 spp.), and Solanaceae (6 spp.) were the dominant families. Therophytes (117 species, 54.45%) were leading life form, followed by Hemicryptophytes (38 spp., 17.67%). Cocculus pendulus, Cissampelos pareira, Pergularia daemia, and Tinospora cordifolia were the woody climbers. The leaf size adaptation spectrum was dominated by Nanophylls (80 spp., 37.20%), Microphylls (61 spp., 28.37%), and Leptophylls (53 spp., 24.65%). Capparis aphylla, Opuntia dillenii, and Periploca aphylla were Aphyllous forms. Phenology revealed maximum number of flowers (36.27%) in spring, winter season had very few number of flowers. Fruiting was at the peak during April but gradually decreased in fall and winter. This study on this localized protected National park represents the indigenous flora, which can easily predict the past flora and vegetation.
