Abstract
Liver abscess is a relatively uncommon but potentially life-threatening condition. The two main types are Pyogenic Liver Abscess (PLA) and Amoebic Liver Abscess (ALA). PLA require initial broad spectrum antibiotics and aspiration/surgical intervention. ALA are found in people who have recently been in endemic regions. These have a very good response to anti-amoeba medication such as metronidazole. Surgery is reserved for those that are non-responding to antibiotic therapy.
