Abstract

Conventional healthcare is powerless to assimilate the needs of each person because of the prodigious elevation in the population. Regardless of having a magnificent infrastructure and radical technologies, medical services are not accessible or economical to everyone. The internet of things (IoT), smart sensors, and wearables have supplemented the wellbeing framework; enabled remote observation, and maintained the wellness of the patient in minute detail. Connected health, in general, alludes to any digital healthcare solution that can be conducted remotely. Expeditious growth in semiconductors, computing, and transmission technologies have contributed to the innovative production of sensors otherwise known as “smart” sensors, which have the potential of wireless communication with a distant site, information exchange, and computerized data processing. The emergence of microsensors amalgamated with intelligent sensor framework technology permits the forefront production of a sensor framework accompanied by remarkably inflated proficiencies, and very small size, weight, as well as low energy usage. The chapter begins with a summary of IoT and smart sensors. It elaborates on the role of IoT in healthcare, several sensors, and smart gadgets used in healthcare, fitness, and wellbeing care units.
