Abstract

Left-sided colonic diverticulitis represents one of the most common gastrointestinal conditions diagnosed in industrialized societies. Our understanding of the pathophysiology and management of this disease have changed over the past two decades. This chapter will review the epidemiology and pathophysiology of the disease. The current status of medical and surgical management is also discussed.
