Abstract

A 62-year-old male scheduled for ileocolic resection presented for preoperative optimization. He had a history of several months of crampy abdominal pain and obstructive symptoms. CT abdomen identified a desmoplastic mass in the small bowel mesentery encasing the major blood vessels to the right colon. Recent colonoscopy showed mild right-sided ischemic colitis and a stricture of the ileum. Biopsy of the ileal lesion identified a carcinoid tumor. A surgical approach to management was decided upon because of obstructive symptoms and worry for progressive ischemia.
