Abstract
The nose filters, humidifies, and warms air as it enters the respiratory system. It is also the location for olfaction. The nose has bony and cartilaginous supports. The nasal septum separates the internal nasal space into two nasal cavities. The lateral wall of the nasal cavities is composed of the superior, middle, and inferior turbinates, and is extensively vascularized. The blood supply to the external nose is rich with many anastomoses. The paranasal sinuses are extensions of the nasal cavity into surrounding bones. They are named for the bone that encloses them: frontal, ethmoid, sphenoid, and maxillary sinuses.
