Abstract

Pediatric nephrectomy is a key surgical procedure in pediatric urology, with techniques and skills that form the basis for many further complex upper urinary tract procedures. Laparoscopic and subsequently robotic techniques have been adapted to prior open retroperitoneal and transabdominal approaches that allow for safe, efficacious and oncologically sound removal of the affected kidney. This chapter will review the development of MIS techniques for this procedure, walkthrough patient selection, OR set up and renal access and discuss techniques for safe extirpation. Lastly, we will review the safety profile and oncologic applications with outcomes.
