Abstract

Postural tachycardia syndrome (PoTS) was named and defined in recent years but has likely previously existed under a variety of names. Aetiology remains unclear; recent research suggests that there are probably several mechanisms. PoTS is a syndrome of multiple disabling symptoms that tends to occur in younger women. Patients may present to specialists in a variety of medical fields depending upon their predominant symptoms. Diagnostic delay and psychiatric misdiagnosis are common. A multidisciplinary approach to symptom management is preferable, but difficult for patients to access.

This book aims to provide some understanding of the postural tachycardia syndrome and practical suggestions in how to assess and manage these complex patients.
