Abstract
The word “bionics” derives etymologically from the Greek word bios (life) and the ending of the word “electronic.” It thus basically refers to an association between biology and electronics. Bionics today designates a new science developed at a time when sciences commonly converge. It combines biological knowledge with expertise in electronics and applies knowledge about how biological systems function to help solve engineering problems (in electromechanical engineering) and to bring about electronic or mechanical advances in electromechanical devices to reproduce and enhance biological systems (in medicine).
