Abstract

Family medicine is a branch of medicine focused on providing comprehensive healthcare within the family and community. It is also known as general practice or primary healthcare. The World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) defines family medicine as the provision of personal, comprehensive, and continuing care for the individual in the context of family and community. Historically, what is now labeled family medicine used to be general medicine before the advent of medical specialties.
