Abstract
The International Society of Bioethics (Sociedad Internacional de Bioética or SIBI) was founded in 1997 in Gijón (Spain) (http://www.sibi.org). The aim of SIBI is to promote, support, disseminate, and consolidate knowledge about bioethics to attain its full application in a number of fields such as the medical, biological, environmental, and food science and technology fields. Its mission is also to encourage legal and pedagogical developments regarding bioethics at the national and international level and to foster a legal, social, and ethical analysis of any problem posed by scientific advances, especially in medicine and biotechnology.
