Abstract

The conservative orthopaedic treatment options for movement disorders of the child’s upper extremities focus mainly on physiotherapy and the provision of orthoses and everyday aids. Orthoses support tasks such as function assurance, stabilization, positioning and correction of misplaced and functionally impaired parts of the body. Assistive devices, on the other hand, are tools of everyday life that try to compensate non-existent bodily functions. From distal to proximal, orthotic fittings and everyday aids are described and placed in the context of an indication-oriented selection. All medical aid supplies pursue the goals of functional improvement and the expansion of the application possibilities of the upper extremities. The improved participation of the child in its environment must also be an equally desirable therapeutic goal.
