Abstract

These narratives in this book are characterized in this concluding chapter as global, cross-cultural and cross-temporal (in the evolution of the authors’ perspectives on adolescence over time). The pedagogical philosophies offered by most of the authors are geared toward approaches that will support adolescents’ successful entry into and contribution to society. Adolescents’ sense of themselves is the point of engagement for the authors, while the component that they provide is the students’ connection of themselves to the future. The influence of social media, the sense of integration or marginalization, and developmental experiences are all discussed as themes. More than any technical or instrumental approach to pedagogy, the authors emphasize the relationship as being at the core of education across the four continents represented in this book.
