Abstract
The chapters in this book present a wide away of integrated approaches to STEM education from across the globe. In this chapter, I offer reflections on these approaches from the perspective of an engineering education scholar who contributed to the development of an integrated curriculum in science, engineering, and mathematics for first-year college students studying engineering and science. Reflections include some of the goals of integrated approaches to STEM education including integrative learning, design thinking, critical thinking, and teamwork as well as insights on challenges associated with assessment of these goals.
