Cardiac Anesthesia

Abstract

First introduced in 1987, transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) has become an essential imaging tool for the diagnosis of many cardiac conditions. In addition, TEE is routinely used during many surgical and percutaneous cardiac procedures for immediate assessment of cardiac function and structures. There are 20 standard TEE views that are acquired from esophageal and transgastric levels. This chapter orients the reader to the basic operations of the TEE device and highlights the necessary views to perform a comprehensive TEE exam.

Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity.
