Facial-Oral Tract Therapy (F.O.T.T.)

Abstract

Pre-, peri- or postnatal brain lesions affect the development of growing children. This chapter will outline the treatment approach for children with postural and tone disorders caused by cerebral lesions and their implications for facial-oral functions. Knowledge of the components of normal child development and understanding how they interact is essential and helpful when treating children. Parents, carers and all those involved must work together to provide the child with individualised support for vital functions, nutrition, verbal and nonverbal communication, daily activities and participation.
