Abstract

This chapter reviews the key clinical and histologic findings of the most common diseases exclusively involving the appendix, focusing on diagnostically relevant questions for various forms of appendicitis, neuroendocrine neoplasms, and epithelial tumors. New staging systems proposed by the American Joint Committee on Cancer’s (AJCC’s) cancer staging manual eighth edition and new nomenclatures proposed by the 2019 World Health Organization (WHO) classification of digestive system tumors for goblet cell adenocarcinoma as well as low- and high-grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasms, including pseudomyxoma peritonei, are fully incorporated.
