Cybersecurity Education: The Skills Gap, Hurdle!

Abstract

The skills gap in cybersecurity has resulted in new challenges and the job roles outpacing the available hands that can adequately tackle the demands of real-world cybersecurity problems. Recent graduates of cybersecurity are also ill-prepared for the requirements of the cybersecurity workplace. Deficient infrastructures in most developing countries provide a safe harbour for cybercriminals. This study looks at how prominent stakeholders such as governments, industry leaders and academia can take proactive steps to close the skills gap in cybersecurity knowledge-expertise. A renewed commitment to cybersecurity education (CybEd) backed by adequate funding, actionable policies and a robust curriculum can close the cybersecurity skills gap.
