Noninvasive Vascular Diagnosis

Abstract

Duplex ultrasound plays an important role in the diagnosis of arterial and venous disease in peripheral vasculature. However, the role of duplex ultrasound in the diagnosis of diseases of the aortic arch vessels and proximal carotid arteries is somewhat limited. Nevertheless, duplex ultrasound can provide direct and indirect clues to the diagnosis of ostial disease of the aortic arch vessels. The characteristics of the wave forms, direction of flow, and velocity can assist in the diagnosis of these vessels. This chapter will describe the anatomy, essentials of duplex imaging, and diagnosis of aortic arch vessels.
