Abstract
The covers of the journal Arquitectura, published by the Institute of Architects of Madrid since 1918, are a hallmark of the journal and the most visible expression of its editorial line. This paper analyzes the graphic legacy of the editorial period between 1959 and 1973 under the direction of the architect Carlos de Miguel.
At the beginning of this new period of the journal, one of the goals of the editorial team was to incorporate other disciplines related to architecture so that the publication could turn into a multidisciplinary forum. This criterion, in addition to conditioning the structure of its contents, was reflected in the composition of the covers. During the first years of this period, the editorial team chose photography and, in the mid-sixties, graphic design began to be incorporated into the logo of the header and the composition of the cover.
The quantitative analysis of the images published on the front pages of the journal at this period will allow us to prepare a detailed inventory of all the published creations. Subsequently, the images will be classified according to the dominant technique in their composition to delve into the critical assessment of this graphic legacy.
