Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of the work is to determine the current level of development of the knowledge economy in Russia, to substantiate the potential of its stimulation for social adaptation to the “green” digital future, and to develop a scientific mechanism of this process.

Design/methodology/approach: The authors determine the level of social adaptation to the “green” digital future and the level of development of the “knowledge economy” in Russia in 2019. The barriers on the path of formation of the “green” digital economy are determined, and perspectives of overcoming them with the help of the knowledge economy are substantiated.

Findings: It is proved that the knowledge economy is a perspective mechanism of social adaptation to the “green” digital future. At present (2019), the level of this adaptation in Russia is moderate, and the level of development of the knowledge economy is relatively low – its increase will allow accelerating social adaptation and approaching the “green” digital future.

Originality/value: The authors develop a scientific mechanism that shows that due to the knowledge economy wide groups of population increase the interest, susceptibility, and readiness for implementation of the “green” digital technologies; also, the increase of education’s accessibility is stimulated – under its influence the sphere of education starts translating new knowledge and technologies in wide groups of population. They obtain access, exchange, generate, update, and develop “green” digital knowledge and technologies and start using them actively.
