Abstract

Migration policies are closely linked to the forced movement of foreign nationals. Far from being only a marginal aspect of international migration control, these mobilities are a highly valued tool in migration policies and an end in themselves. Michalon synthesises the state of knowledge on the governmental power of displacements carried out within migration control. First, this theme is placed at the intersection of studies on the carceral, mobility, and borders. Second, the main themes of study about the power and the restriction of individual freedom through governmental mobility are outlined. Third, a typology of governmental mobility is presented, showing how the barbed wire surrounding the detention places also characterises, materially or metaphorically, the displacements of foreign nationals.
