Integrated Procedures in Facial Cosmetic Surgery

Abstract

The mouth is the most expressive region of the face, and the smile is a fundamental aspect of socialization and facial attractiveness. A perfect balance among the framework of the lips, gingiva, and teeth is required for a harmonious and beautiful smile. When the amount of gingival exposure exceeds the normal limit, the condition known as the “gummy smile” occurs. This can result in an unattractive smile, compromising one’s self-esteem and social interactions. More commonly, a combination of components are responsible for this condition, and various treatment modalities have been suggested accordingly. In this chapter, we mainly focus on novel and less invasive approaches to overcome this problem and achieve the desirable outcome.
