Abstract

Urothelial Carcinoma is defined as the abnormal division of cells within the layers of tissue or urothelium of the renal pelvis, bladder, ureters, and the urethra. Cancer of the bladder, ureters, and urethra most commonly are missed diagnosed as urinary tract infections or nephrolithiasis. Patients may be given multiple courses of antibiotics and/or pain medication without resolution of their symptoms. Diagnosis and management of the disease is delayed, with risk of disease progression. This chapter presents the key point to evaluation and management of patients that present with known or suspected urothelial carcinoma, including identification of risk factors, diagnostic pathways, and guidelines for referral for surgical management.
