Abstract
Although almost half the world’s population is living in rural areas, rural dimensions of health and health care are often neglected in the global health discourse. Leading challenges for health systems in rural areas include the pervasively limited access to qualified health workers. Thus, a health-in-all-policies approach, the assessment of policy impacts as well as policymakers addressing policy changes if necessary, will be the way to ensure that universal health coverage and sustainable development goals are achieved.
