Post-maternity Body Changes

Abstract

Pregnancy causes a rapid increase in the volume of the abdominal cavity which in turn causes dilation of the muscular aponeurotic system (an alteration in the distribution of abdominal fatty tissue and a dilation of the elasticity of the skin of the abdomen) and is visually accentuated with subsequent weight loss.

Normally, the best surgical solution available through plastic surgery to correct the aftermath of pregnancy at the abdomen level is an abdominoplasty. However, when the abdominal skin is not excessive, but there is redundancy and additionally an altered distribution of fat or an alteration of the muscular aponeurotic system that almost always consists of diastasis of the rectus abdominis muscles, we perform a mini abdominoplasty or a modified abdominoplasty.

These surgeries, which are variations of the traditional abdominoplasty, allow us to satisfactorily treat that group of patients who would otherwise be left without adequate treatment.
