Abstract
While ophthalmologists may be diligent in examining eyes and effectively diagnosing and managing disease, we often neglect addressing the collateral impairment caused by the disease. We must remember that behind the eyes lies a person anxious to retain enough vision to continue participating in daily living activities. Low vision rehabilitation is the subspecialty designed to address the impairment caused by the disease, and early referral is now the standard of care for any patient who is starting to lose their vision.
