Abstract

African countries were completely absent at the space “race” from the very start for many reasons. After more than half a century, African countries are trying to develop their own national space programs by adopting national acts and institutionalizing in this basis. Today the African Union is trying to coordinate an outer space program by adopting common policies and strategies in this field. To this effect, the African Space agency (AfSA) was established. Hence, this chapter analyzes the historic background of the African space program, the opportunities, and the challenges that could face the African Union on this ground. Thus, to achieve the objectives of the scientific work have been used analysis, comparative, historic, and deduction method of research.
