Abstract

The gap between the lesser wing and greater wing is the superior orbital fissure, an elongated comma-shaped opening that tapers laterally with the following borders: medially, the sphenoid body; laterally, the frontal bone; above, the lesser wing of the sphenoid; and below, the medial edge of the orbital surface of the greater wing. This chapter discusses the normal anatomy of the superior orbital fissure and its relation to the orbital vicinity. CT and MRI serve as conjoined modalities for depicting the region of the orbital fissures.
