Abstract
Prenatal psychology extends beyond psychology and the fields of therapy and medicine. As a continuation of psychoanalytical culture theory, it provides a new foundation for anthropologic, psycho-historic and psycho-political planes. It also plays an essential role in a future philosophy of empathy and attachment as a so-called world attachment theory.
Prenatal psychology directs our view to the roots of humanity; it opens a new perspective on central questions of the educational system for individuals and groups. It looks at the biologic, social and psychological conditions of conception, pregnancy and birth and integrates them. This revolutionary new knowledge base allows us to take an integrated look at the origins and behavioural patterns of each human individual before birth – and thus look at humanity from a radically new perspective.
The evolutionary, historical, sociohistorical, family-historical, parent-historical heritage we each carry within is extremely complex. The integration of these many planes of influence requires an attachment theory based on our knowledge of the immediate and distant prenatal periods. This enhanced theory of attachment looks at the ambivalence inherent in every family system and focuses on life-affirming and life-negating experiences and patterns and their psychologic consequences.
A “world attachment theory” asserts that throughout human history the same psychic mechanisms have happened and are unfolding in all families and family fragments and the basis of all social systems in their varying states of maturity. All pre- and perinatal projections of human culture such as mythologies, religions, arts and science that have hitherto remained unreflected upon can now be increasingly understood and withdrawn; and this will establish a new cosmopolitanism of humanity as a global family.
