Abstract
Rectal cancers may require resection of the distal rectum, anal canal, and anal sphincter complex, depending on the location of the lesion and any involved structures. When sphincter preservation is feasible, a low anterior resection can be performed. The present chapter describes an abdominoperineal resection.
