Abstract
Operation Protective Edge (OPE) was a military operation launched by Israel in 2014 with the aim of stopping rocket fire from Gaza into Israel. The operation lasted 50 days and resulted in more than 700 casualties (including 74 fatalities) among the Israeli Defense Forces. We describe the case of a special forces team that suffered an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion that injured all team members. The various types of blast injury sustained by the team members are described. The need for a high index of suspicion in triaging and treating these injuries is stressed, since such casualities may otherwise initially look only minimally injured. Accordingly, the need for point-of-care advanced life support resuscitaion and timely evacuation are of paramount importance.
