Abstract

This chapter begins by considering the importance of food education in secondary schools in England in the context of the obesity crisis and the role of meat production in contributing to global warming. It continues with a discussion on how young people might be taught to cook and eat well. This is extended to a consideration of the role of science learning in meeting these objectives. Then the chapter discusses the possible content of secondary school food technology courses. Finally, there are concluding remarks which comment briefly on each of the previous sections in the light of possible curriculum development.
