Abstract
To close the gap between evidence-based behavioral treatments for chronic diseases and their uptake in clinical practice, this book aims to encourage the development of evidence for the value of behavioral treatments that meets the standards for quality that exist in medicine. Evidence for quality is strongest in Phase III efficacy trials which follow the agreed-upon “rules” for clinical trial methods. In the behavioral clinical trial literature, there are many more Phase II than Phase III trials. What is needed is not a larger quantity of such evidence, but a higher quality of evidence using the standards that exist in medicine. This book applies a progressive, translational science model to achieve that goal.
“Knowing is not enough; we must apply.
Willing is not enough; we must do.”
Goethe (1749–1832)
