This paper presents early examples of Maritime Insurance accounting. A detailed study of the books of the first of proprietorship of Francesco di Marco Datini in Pisa in 1382–1406 allowed to investigate the peculiarities of reflection transactions of insurance accounting. Describes the features of the reflection settlements of insurance premiums, description of insurance transactions in the accounting books, situations of cancellation of the insurance policies and accounting of financial result from insurance activities in the account in the “Profit on merchandise” account (the prototype of “Profits and Losses” account) in the final folios of book Merchandises (Mercanzie) prepared in 1406, in which the final financial result for the entire period from 1383 to 1406 was introduced. It should be noted considerable attention is paid to the issues of Maritime Insurance in economic historian literature, but, unfortunately, this issue until recently was not sufficiently described in the scientific accounting literature, it makes this study necessary.
