Abstract
This chapter provides a brief overview of various topics related to asthma in Arab nations. Divided into seven sections, it starts with a brief introduction into the topic of asthma as a global concern and then delves into the epidemiology, prevalence, risk factors, as well as disease burden related to asthma. In the next section, it covers asthma and obesity, possible related mechanisms, and management options. The subsequent section discusses asthma and air pollution, covering aspects related to sandstorms as well as other sources of pollution such as incense burning. Coverage of asthma scales comes next, followed by a section on asthma management, along with some possible barriers and challenges as well as suggestions on how to overcome them. A brief coverage of global and regional asthma guidelines ensues. Finally, the chapter concludes with a few recommendations and a summary.
