Abstract
Nummular headache is an uncommon headache disorder characterized by well-circumscribed, focal headaches that are often chronic in nature. While the clinical characteristics of nummular headaches are well-characterized, the pathophysiology of this disorder remains somewhat unclear. There is currently no defined algorithm for the management of nummular headache, but recent evidence suggests operative management may produce dramatic results in select patients. Arterectomy, with or without concurrent neurectomy, is a minimally invasive, low-risk procedure that can be performed under local anesthesia.
