Modern Facility and Workplace Management

Part of the book series: Classroom Companion: Business ((CCB))

Abstract

This chapter gives an introduction into the topic of benchmarking, by presenting the modules, ranges, phases and different types of benchmarking. Furthermore, the two commonly used methods, “process step” and “cost benchmarking”, are introduced. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of benchmarking, as well as the interpretation of the results in order to achieve the greatest possible benefit, are described. Two examples of Facility Services (FS) at Swiss hospitals are shown as practical examples.
