RFID Monitoring and Accounting System in Health-Care Facilities

Abstract

Modern technologies, today, are in every field of human activity. This trend is also backed by health-care institutions. Many of the newest technologies are used in surgical and other types of operations, but medications accounting and monitoring systems in health-care institutions have had no significant modifications in recent years. It has become an aim of research in this field. As result, the opportunity was found to develop an effective solution for monitoring medications and medicine in health-care. The existing principles of monitoring medications in healthcare facilities are described, in addition to the alternative way—the automatic identification accounting system, as intended for determination for inventory management and accounting. The proposed accounting system is based on radiofrequency identification (RFID) tagging of the medication. In the course of the study, an accounting system for medicines was designed by simulating the actual movement of medications through the points of accounting. Efficient ways of RFID tagging and transporting medications during material handling in the warehouse or at points of accounting were tested. The implementation of identification technologies will have a positive effect on the quality of the services and the efficacy of the movement of medicines and expiration date control.
