Abstract
Health literacy is essential for patients to understand healthcare services and effectively utilize the information in order to sustain their health. An individual might have good reading skills; however, they might not be able to comprehend the healthcare information available to them. There has been extensive research undertaken by many organizations to develop information to improve health literacy of patients. It is imperative that the healthcare environment expound these efforts for the betterment of the health of patients and our communities. Healthcare professionals must be advocates for health by being able to find, understand, and use health information and services to preserve health and to help patients and their significant others do the same.
