Abstract
Degenerative disc disease is part of the process termed intervertebral osteochondrosis. In its initial stages, the changes on bone SPECT/CT can be minimal as the endplate alterations and subsequent increase in bone turnover are not yet pronounced. Inspection of the CT part of the study can reveal disc space narrowing, vacuum phenomenon, and possibly vertebral body reactive changes in more advanced stages of the condition. Here, a case is presented of a patient referred for bone SPECT/CT because of right-sided sciatica radiating to the buttock.
